He holds a PhD in Social Sciences from Wageningen University (Netherlands; 2003), and has over 30 years experience in the area of sustainable development – leading integrated research & innovation projects regarding strategic resource use planning and environmental management as well as pathways for adoption of sustainable practices in Europe, Oceania, SE-Asia and Latin America.

Marta Vasconcelos

Title: Prof.

Position: Associate Professor

Short biography and experience: Leader of the Environment and Resources Research Group and head of the Plantech lab at CBQF, ESB-UCP. Member of the Executive Commitee of the UCP campus in Porto.  Honorary Associate at the James Hutton Institute, UK. Member of the Scientific Panel for Responsible Plant Nutrition, and past President of the International Plant Nutrition Council (2022-2025). Coordinator and participant of several European projects dealing with legumes. In her professional activities, she has collaborated with 594 colleagues on co-authored scientific papers.

Francisco Castro Alves

Position: Research Programme Officer at DG AGRI – European Commission

Short biography and experience: Francisco has a Bachelor and Master degree in Agricultural Engineering, and a Master in Sustainability Science Policy and Society. He combines experience working in startups in the agri-food sector with R&I project implementation in the field of biotech. Currently, he works at the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development – European Commission, as part of the Research & Innovation Unit. He follows the EU funded R&I projects portfolio for protein crops and soil health living labs.

Tilak Raj Sharma

Position: National Professor-BP Pal Chair

Short biography and experience: Prof. Tilak Raj Sharma, a well-known Plant Molecular Biologist, is presently working as ICAR-National Professor-BP Pal Chair at NIPB, IARI, New Delhi. He has more than 10 years’ experience as a Research Administrator in different capacities such as  Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR, New Delhi;   Director, IARI, New Delhi Executive Director, DBT- National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, Mohali; Chief Executive Officer, DBT-Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing; Director, ICAR- National Institute for Plant Biotechnology, New Delhi. Dr. Sharma has guided 32 PhD students,  published more than 225 research papers in international journals and written 5 books. He has seven Indian patents to his credit.
